About Me/Sur Moi
Graduating with a degree in French and International Health, I have become passionate about understanding global and community health challenges that affect people at home and abroad. Applying my knowledge and experience of community development, cultural competency, and healthcare systems, I hope to use these skills one day as a prospective physician to create an equitable healthcare system that reaches even the most remote communities across the globe.
At Clemson, an experience that notably shaped my skills and knowledge of community development on a global scale was my internship with Clemson Engineers for Developing Communities (CEDC). At CEDC, not only was I a part of a Community Health Surveillance Project in Haiti, but I learned what effective global health intervention looks like, avoiding toxic charity tendencies and making sustainable differences within vulnerable populations.
While my interests in sustainable and equitable healthcare reach an international level, I have developed a thorough understanding of the importance of addressing these challenges at the local level. Participating in a research project looking at the effects of Kratom on pregnant and nursing mothers with Substance Use Disorder, I was exposed to women challenged by low incomes, poor access to healthcare, and how they were affected by a prejudiced healthcare system. This experience allowed me to better understand the challenges plaguing not only at-risk populations, but women specifically.
Clemson has given me the opportunity to pursue my professional interests with practical solutions, providing a solid foundation for my career. I have taken the role of researcher, analyst, promoter, and empathetic listener, all of which are skills that will assist me in reducing health inequities on a global and domestic scale. Clemson has made me a fierce and diverse candidate in the professional world as a physician and global health professional; this eDossier is a testimony to that!
